James Oughtibridge & Rebecca Appleby are highly skilled practitioners who have been teaching adults since 2001. They have worked together for the last five years combining their love of clay and teaching to develop a highly successful educational programme with their series of 'Five Day Courses'.

They have recently relocated their studio where they both work and teach. Their 'Longside studio' has stunning views of the Yorkshire Sculpture Park which the students can enjoy on their course.

The courses they run are often oversubscribed, which now have exciting added features including a research trip to the YSP. Practical work on their popular 5 day course is demonstration-led and tailored, as much as possible, to the needs of the individual. Guidance and help is given throughout.
These exciting courses are suitable for a beginner or a more confident artist. Class sizes are limited to ensure individual guidance & a productive group dynamic. All materials provided on this course are the materials that both artists use themselves to make work to exhibition standard. Courses are focused on sculptural slab-building, but there is always flexibility on ideas and outcomes. You will be amazed at how versatile clay can be & at the dramatic structures that can be created in a relatively small space of time.

You will learn how to prepare and manipulate the clay in various ways, suiting your choice of outcome, using moulds & formers. Work can be developed to be placed in your garden, or interior, and can be functional or purely sculptural. The course is very much designed to send you away with a proudly finished piece of sculptural clay work, feeling very much inspired and confident to go back to your own studios/classes, armed with new ideas & techniques to try.

In addition, there is a large-scale state-of- the-art slab-roller at your disposal.

The Yorkshire Sculpture Park where they are now situated is a popular tourist destination, and there are many places to stay nearby to suit all budgets.
